Comin' Home

Hold on mama I'm comin' home tonight.
My clothes are ragged, I'm tired,
I'm quite a sight.
There's 10 more miles and
the end it's looking bright.
When I see your face I know that
I'm all right.

Ooh, you don't know....
ooh, I need you so,
I'm comin' home.

Left your side one brave
and shining night.
Empowered soul, I'm off to
fight that fight.
The wind picked up
and it took me like a kite.
It threw me down, I crashed,
but I'm all right.

Ooh, you don't know....
ooh, I need you so,
I'm comin' home.

I'm on the road and
I see a ray of light.
Skin so smooth and
I can feel you in my mind.
Don't touch the door, don't move,
you just sit tight.
Hold on mama, I'm comin' home tonight.

Ooh, you don't know...
ooh, I need you so,
I'm comin' home.
I'm comin' home.
I'm comin' home.

The Man

I wake up in the morning
to start a new day.
It's nice out there,
baby, I'd like to play,
but there's a man,
he's walking around,
trying to track me down.

Well, I try to do good,
I try to do right,
a cloud of black flies,
it never leaves my sight.
There's halos on the ground and
serpents in the night and
the fruit on the tree is
just so luscious and ripe and
he's walking
he's looking for me,
he won't let it be.

I heard his voice last night,
he's laughing at me and
I'll see him soon,
that's my reality.
He waits until I'm weak,
he slips in through the door,
he puts things on the table that
I don't ignore.
He's a man, he's walking around,
he's trying to track me down.

Well, there's ladies dressed in red,
and ladies dressed in pink,
some of them are tall and
some are quite unique.
There's Taylor Ann Marie and
Mary Catherine Bryce,
at first I thought that's lovely,
now I'm thinking twice.
He's a man, and he's walking around,
he wants to track me down.

Well, maybe I'll get smart
and I'll turn out wise.
I'll throw open my door and
let the darkness hit the light.
It seems like the evil man's
been with me all the time,
trying to play on my fears,
trying to muck up my life.

He's just a man, and he's walking around,
he wants to track me down.

Hold On

I go to town right past the left-out population
I see the tropics
And some cancers of our souls.
Pinch-faced commute
And we can’t change the AM station
We don’t realize how fast we’re growing old.

We look through the fog
To find a clear voice that speaks good reason
To tell us hold on to the time we have, my friend.
It tells us hold on, you can’t sink, you’ve got to swim.
It tell us hold on, you can right now start again.

I see my friend, I see him struggling with this notion
Despite the humvee life we still cannot feel free
If you look twice, you’ll discover my devotion
Unto a course we chart across this choppy sea

We look through the fog
To find a clear voice that speaks good reason
To tell us hold on to the time we have, my friend
It tells us hold on, you can’t sink, you’ve got to swim.
It tell us hold on, you can right now start again.

Put down the gun, you can’t keep your poor hand steady
It’s hard to fight a fight when you don’t know the way
We jump up cuz it’s our time to be ready
We’re breathing toxins
We know the body count today.

Leslie Brown

It's all around town
About you and Leslie Brown
I said it's all around town
About you and Leslie Brown
You've been calling her up
Lord knows you want to track her down

We all told you that that girl ain't good for you
But you said hush your mouth
I know just what to do
And now it's all around town
About you and Leslie Brown

We told you that you could simply pick and choose
We told you that you've got nothing sweet to lose
And now it's all over town
You've got to check out the evening news

It's all around town
About you and Leslie Brown
I said it's all over town
About you and Leslie Brown
You've been calling her up
Lord knows you want to track her down

Billy

Me and Billy were the best of friends
We played outside like the summer would never end.
Baseball games, we'd scream and shout,
Threw some rocks and knocked some windows out,
Lit a fire that cleared a whole block out,
And then his daddy died.

And on that warm September day,
He couldn't shake the pain away,
Life had something else to say
And then he hit the ground.

Billy started drinking way back then
A chance to shake the pain away within
She promised she'd be right by his side
He lost his job, she took another ride
He never said a word, he never laughed, he never cried
He wouldn't go there.

But on that warm September day,
She turned and walked away
Billy didn't have another card to play
And he hit the ground.

Billy, he's been drinking once again
No shirt, no hat, no dog, no love, no friends
The policeman said you stand right here
How do I make this crystal clear?
You're on probation, you've been drinking beer
We're gonna go downtown.

And on that warm September day,
He tried to walk away
But the cop had a club and some pepper spray
And Billy hit the ground.

Billy, he's been gone five years since then
I think about him, my old dear lost friend
Just one face in a sea of them
Just one soul, is he free again?
All that pain that kept on haunting him
Before he hit the ground.

But I remember his great smile
A hopeful somewhat awkward child
A set of dreams unreconciled
Before he hit the ground.

False Pretenses

Why'd you start a war
Under false pretenses?
Why'd you start a war
Under false pretenses?

You told us about weapons
And there were none.
Where are those weapons,
What have you done?

Why'd you start a war
Under false pretenses?
Why'd you start a war
Under false pretenses?

Now thousands have died
Blown up in the sun.
Soldiers and children,
And it ain't done.

Why'd you start a war
Under false pretenses?
Why'd you start a war
Under false pretenses?

We want a peaceful revolution
We need a truthful solution
We want a peaceful revolution
You gave us a lie
You changed your speech
You gave us a war
Under false pretenses
You gave us a war
Under false pretenses

You claim you love Jesus
You pray to God's Son
Killing for vengeance
It's not his kingdom

Why'd you start a war
Under false pretenses?
Why'd you start a war
Under false pretenses?

Ain't No Time

I'm not trying to win the rat race,
I'm just fine with this here snail's pace.
I'm going to share this song, breathe some open air.
There's a lot of empty frowns
and few answers to be found.
Too many people think they shouldn't care.

But with the world about to unwind,
You better find yourself some time,
And hold on to the one you love so dear.
You've been talking about that break
Why don't you pull up all your stakes?
There ain't no time to live wrapped up in fear.

Now i am just a poor boy and i'm staring at the sea,
But
i don't have to live with all these chains around my feet.
I'll just keep on weaving down my lonely street of dreams,
And I'll define
My peace of mind.

I don't have to fly in first class,
I'm just fine back with the riff-raff,
Gonna spread my wings and let my soul fly free.
They just want to get rich quick,
But all that stress will make them sick.
There's a nice piece of shade beneath this old oak tree.

With the world about to unwind,
You better find yourself some time,
Hold on to the one you love so dear.
You been talking about that break
Why don't you pull up all your stakes?
There ain't no time to live wrapped up in fear.

Climb On Up

One of these days we're gonna climb on up to the Lord.
One of these days we're gonna climb on up to the Lord.
One of these days we're gonna climb on up,
We're gonna see him on the mountaintop
One of these days we're gonna climb on up to the Lord.

One of these days we're gonna ride on up to the Lord.
One of these days we're gonna ride on up to the Lord.
One of these we're gonna ride up there,
We're gonna see him sitting in his holy chair.
One of these days we're gonna ride on up to the Lord.

I know sometimes it's gonna be a steep, steep climb.
I know sometimes it's gonna be a steep, steep climb.
May have to stop and catch my breath,
But i'll get back on until there's nothing left,
I know sometimes it'll be a steep, steep climb.

I'm gonna climb on up
I'm gonna climb on up
Gonna climb on up
Gonna climb on up
One of these days I'm gonna climb on up to the Lord

There's roots and rocks and thorns and sticky clay.
There's roots and rocks and thorns and sticky clay.
There's roots and rocks and sticky clay,
There's a whole lot of junk gettin' in my way
One of these days i'm gonna climb on up to the Lord.

Well, I know sometimes I've taken the wrong, wrong trail.
I know sometimes I've chased the devil's tail.
I know sometimes I've lost my way,
But I'll get back on until my dying day.
I know sometimes I've taken the wrong, wrong trail.

I'm gonna climb on up
I'm gonna climb on up
Gonna climb on up
Gonna climb on up
One of these days I'm gonna climb on up to the Lord

One of these days I'm gonna climb on up to the Lord
One of these days I'm gonna climb on up to the Lord.
One of these days I'm gonna climb on up,
Gonna see him sitting on a mountaintop
One of these days I'm gonna climb on up to the Lord.
One of these days I'm gonna climb on up to the Lord.
One of these days I'm gonna climb on up to the Lord.

Kokopelli

Kokopelli, Kokopelli, where did you roam?
Where is your flute tonight, where is your home?
Kokopelli, Kokopelli, where did you roam?
Far away, far away, wild desert home.

Kokopelli, Kokopelli, you bring the rain in.
Your voice it is riding on juniper wind.
Kokopelli, Kokopelli, sweet sage of men,
Show me your magic that comes from within

The blood red goodbyes and the warm wind have taken your place,
The buttes and the spires and the arches, they all hide your face.

Kokopelli, Kokopelli, where did you roam?
Where did you sleep tonight, where is your home?
Kokopelli, Kokopelli, where did you roam?
Far away, far away, wild desert home.
Far away, far away, wild desert home.

Magical Land

Well, I dream about the places that I'll see when I leave this town,
Just how very good it'll be when I'm not around.
The ocean's gonna spray on me,
The waves are crashing down.
The canyons and the juniper trees,
I'm outward bound.

Try to distract myself but I'm just too restless to sleep.
Can't find a smile, they must have tossed it in a garbage heap.
Now comes the time for me to take a big ol' flying leap.

I'm gonna go
Gonna ride off to that magical land
I'm not moving slow
Feel the engine roaring like a 100-piece big band.
See that sad little town disappearing
Goodbye, my friend

Well, out there i got people to meet, time to contemplate.
A certain feeling you can't beat on the interstate.
Now a new horizon, oh so sweet,
Not gonna be late.
And I'll burn the bridges, I won't retreat,
I'm in the starting gate.

In time I'll capture it,
Convince the madness to cease.
It'll seep into me until my soul finds its peace.
All that is haunting me I know that I must release

I'm gonna go
Gonna ride off to that magical land
I'm not moving slow
Feel the engine roaring like a 100-piece big band
See that sad little town disappearing
Goodbye, my friend

Blue-Shaded Mountains

Dark canyons around me and wild running streams
Around me blue mountains like mountains in dreams
Around me a valley like Eden in spring
Around all is beauty, how can I not sing?
Above the great mesa a message to me
Comes down through the ages
wild, haunting and free
And I soar with the spirits that fly wing on wing
And we call to the valley below us to sing
Of mesas and canyons and wild running streams
Of blue-shaded mountains like mountains in dreams.
